Administration
The Senior Citizen's Division is under the administration of the Lynwood Recreation & Community Services Department and is housed in the Community/Transit Center located at 11301 Bullis Road in Lynwood. The administrative section operates Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Registration hours are from 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m.- 5:30 p.m. City of Lynwood
General Information/Referrals
The City of Lynwood Recreation & Community Services Department Senior Citizen's Division has an array of exciting recreational activities and social services that are designed especially for adults 55 years and older. For further information call (310) 603 - 0220 ext. 319.
Senior Citizens Advisory Board
This Board is comprised of concerned senior citizens. The purpose is to make recommendations and advise the Recreation and Community Services Department on various issues concerning Lynwood's senior population. All seniors are welcomed and encouraged to attend the meetings. The meeting is held at the Lynwood Community/ Transit Center, 11301 Bullis Road in Lynwood on the first Wednesday of each month at 12:00 p.m. No charge. Bingo
The Lynwood Senior Citizens Club offers card and bingo games, creating lots of fun and excitement. The Senior Citizens Club meets every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Bateman Hall, 11331 Ernestine Avenue, Lynwood, CA 90262. There is a $3.00 membership fee.
Bus Pass Information
The Metropolitan Transit Authority is aiding our senior citizens ages sixty-two (62) and older by providing them with free bus passes. Call Phyllis Cooper at the Senior Help Line (310) 886-0425 for further information, Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. No charge. Choral Group (Lynwood Golden Voices)
The Senior Choral Group is available for singing engagements throughout the city for seniors who like to sing, read poetry, act, play an instrument, or just have fun. The class meets every Thursday, 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Lynwood Community/Transit Center, 11301 Bullis Road, Lynwood, CA 90262. A small donation is suggested.
Dial-A-Ride
The Dial-A-Ride program has been serving the transportation needs of Lynwood's seniors and handicapped citizens since 1978. Dial-A-Ride drivers will take you to the market, the bank, personal appointments, and medical appointments throughout Lynwood and the surrounding areas of Compton, most parts of Huntington Park, and Downey. All other destinations outside these cities must be approved by the Dial-A-Ride Dispatcher and Supervisor. All appointments should be made no more then seven days and no less than two days prior to the appointment time. Same day appointments are taken depending on availability. There are three buses in service Monday through Friday and one on Saturday. Appointments are given on a first come, first serve basis. Seats are limited, so please call appointments in as early as possible. Our driver will pick you up in front of your home (at the front curb) and drop you off in front of your destination (at the front curb). Please call and cancel if there is a change in your plans.
Office hours are Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.Dial-A-Ride observes the following holidays: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Cinco de Mayo, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas Day. There is a $.50 charge round trip or one-way every time you ride. A $.25 charge for each extra trip you take.
Excursions
The Senior Citizens Division has planned monthly field trips to exciting and delightful places. These trips are planned especially with the needs of Senior Citizens in mind. Stop by the Lynwood Community/Transit Center to register for any excursion. Registration deadlines and cost will vary for each trip. Register Monday through Thursday 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., 12:00 noon to 2:00 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Lynwood Community/Transit Center, 11301 Bullis Road, Lynwood. Movies
First run movies (on videos are shown) every Tuesday beginning at 12:00 noon at the Lynwood Community/Transit Center, 11301 Bullis Road, Lynwood. Cost is $.50.
Nutrition
Seniors Meal Program - Nutritious hot meals served daily for all seniors 60 years and older. Monday through Friday, 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. Lynwood Community/Transit Center, 11301 Bullis Road, Lynwood. Suggested donation is $1.75. This program is supervised by the Old Timers Foundation.
