Black History Month
Celebrated annually in the Month of February, Black History Month celebrates the cultural achievements and accomplishments of African Americans. The City of Lynwood's Black History Month activities are again designed to recognize and celebrate African American heritage and to showcase Lynwood citizens, educators and children in a two-hour program presentation. Admission to this event is free of charge.
All City Track and Field Championships
This meet is open to any boy and girl who resides in Lynwood or attends a public or private school in the City. Any boy or girl wishing to participate, can join the track and field program at his or her school or by registering in advance with the Recreation and Community Services Department just by calling the Lynwood Youth Center at (310) 603-0220, ext. 390 or (310) 886-0453.
Annual Easter Egg Hunt
With many onlookers, participants, dignitaries, sponsors and Recreation staff on hand, to meet and greet the Easter Bunny, Lynwood's Annual Easter Egg Hunt is quite an attraction. It is estimated that more than 400 youngsters actively participate in the event, while the audience of parents, grandparents and others usually tops out at about 300 or more. The Lynwood Easter Egg Hunt is one of many great events, sponsored in part by the generous donation of money and volunteer time by the Lynwood Rotary Club and its members. The sponsorship that the Lynwood Rotary Club is able to provide, guarantees; better gifts, more eggs, and prizes, not to mention the number of added working volunteers who help to hide the eggs and help in identifying the special winners of each age group.
Cinco de Mayo Celebration
The City of Lynwood Recreation and Community Services Department celebrates Cinco de Mayo with a festival that includes music provided by local Mariachi bands and other musical groups. The festival also includes dancing, games, great Mexican food and a carnival with rides for all ages. It will be a fun time for the whole family to enjoy.

Juneteenth Celebration
This event is designed to celebrate summer with an old fashioned picnic, vendors, games, performers, entertainment and lots fun. This fun outdoor picnic is free and everyone is welcome. For more information, call (310) 603-0220, ext. 319.
July 4th/Unity Festival Fireworks Display
This event is designed to celebrate the City's birthday and to unify the people of the community. This annual event is one of the largest programs produced by the City. Attractions include live entertainment, carnival rides, food and special celebrity guests.
Applications for vendors, family reunions, entertainers and others are being accepted at the Lynwood Recreation and Community Services Department, 11301 Bullis Road in Lynwood, Monday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m.-9:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m.-2:00 p.m., 3:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m.
National Night Out
This event is joined by other cities across America, Canada and military bases worldwide to recognize National Night Out (NNO). National Night Out is a crime and drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch to increase awareness. All Lynwood residents are encouraged to participate. September 16th Celebration
The City of Lynwood has over the years, celebrated its ethnic diversity and sought to bring about cultural awareness through its many programs and celebrations and no celebration in the history of the City is larger than what is being described as a "Celebration of Peace, Progress, and Unity". The City of Lynwood has proclaimed the month of September as "The Hispanic Heritage Month".
The month long celebration kick-off with a three (3) day Street Fair "Fiestas Patrias" on the 2nd or 3rd week of September. This traditional fiesta celebrates the music, dance and foods of various countries of Latin America. There will be game booths and carnival rides for the entire family.

Veterans Day
The City of Lynwood commemorates Veterans Day each November 11th with a program located at the Lynwood City Park Veterans Memorial beginning at 10:00 a.m. Everyone is invited to come and join the City in honoring our Veterans.
The City of Lynwood annually salutes the Veterans that have served our country. This program is presented at the Lynwood City Park Veterans Memorial on May 31st of each year with guest speakers, bands, military units and the Lynwood High School ROTC.

Thanksgiving Day
A Thanksgiving Dinner is provided by the City of Lynwood and the Salvation Army to feed less fortunate families. Families are served with a full course meal from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at the Salvation Army located at 736 E. Compton Boulevard in Compton.
The City of Lynwood provides transportation for the citizens of Lynwood to and from the event. Transportation is being provided by Dial-A-Ride. Any citizens interested in participating are asked to meet at the Community/Transit Center by 11:00 a.m. The City of Lynwood has provided the Salvation Army with socks for any citizen that joins the festivities. Donations of socks were solicited from the City of Lynwood employees.
Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade
This year the City of Lynwood hosts its Annual Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade on Friday, December 15, 2006. The parade begins at 7:00 p.m. Historically, the Lynwood Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade is one of only two night time Christmas Parades held in Southern California.
The parade begins on Martin Luther King Jr. and Atlantic Boulevard, proceeds west on Martin Luther King Jr. to the terminating point at Lynwood City Park. The parade will last approximately two hours. The City of Lynwood is looking forward to the Annual Candy Cane Lane Christmas Parade. It promises to be an exciting and enjoyable event for, everyone in attendance.
Community Services Day
The City of Lynwood, inconjunction with the Salvation Army provides Christmas assistance to less fortunate families. Families are assisted with toys for children under 13 years and food for a Christmas dinner with all the trimmings. Applications are available during the second week of October.
