Mayor Pro-Tem Aide Castro
Aide Castro was elected to the Lynwood City Council in November 2007. In December 2007 she was selected by colleagues on the City Council to be Mayor Pro Tem for the coming year.
She credits her election to the City Council and selection by her colleagues as Mayor Pro Tem, to her organizing work with the community to help them select new leaders. One of her criterion for new leaders is that they will be responsive to the needs of residents and businesses. Mrs. Castro is thankful to the people who supported her and takes seriously the trust they have placed in her.
Council Member Aide Castro is committed to enhancing public safety, improving public infrastructure and increasing the City’s financial return for economic development. She is a vocal leader on the issues of smart commercial growth, affordable housing, senior citizens’ programs and transparency in government.
A 30-year-old resident, Aide Castro is committed to the Lynwood Community. She served on the Lynwood Block Grant Advisory Board, advising the council on funding for local non-profit organizations. Mrs. Castro is a volunteer coach of the Lynwood Athletics Community Services, a youth sports organizer; she is also secretary and deputy woman’s director for the League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) for the Lynwood Council. In 2004, as senior account executive for a national mortgage, her team was awarded “Top Producer” for reaching $40 billion in sales.
Mrs. Castro is a proud and active member of the Lynwood Center for Community and Family Services Board of Directors. She identifies with the needs of families and children supported by the Center for Community and Family Services. As a former single mother, raising her children on welfare, she struggled to become the self-made entrepreneur that she is today. Her personal perspective has raised the level of awareness of the organization as to the needs of its clients. While raising a family, Mrs. Castro earned a real estate license and achieved finance certification in fair lending, pricing, underwriting, mortgage and insurance. As an entrepreneur, Mrs. Castro owns a full-service beauty salon. Understanding the financial problems of families and individuals struggling with divorce and other obstacles, she provides free credit repair counseling to others in need. She created the Lynwood First Time Home Buyers Seminar to help families purchase a home. Her experience in finance and real estate has made her a valuable resource to help guide decisions made by the governing board on behalf of the organization.
Dedicated to public service, Mrs. Castro is proud to be a Pink Hat member of the Regal Red Hat Society, Lynwood Chapter, as well as, a member of Rotary International. She has raised money for local residents in need and has personally supported Lynwood senior groups, youth organization, and sports teams. She also hosts an annual Mother’s Day event in her home.
Aide Castro finds motivation and strength from past life struggles. Each day upon waking, she continuously evokes the idea that having faith in oneself, provides strength to overcome any obstacle in life.
