Mayor Maria Teresa Santillan Message Fall 2007
I have served four years as your elected official. By now, you should know who I am and where I stand. I wasn’t elected by the residents for photo opportunities, travel or extravagant spending at taxpayer’s expense. I was elected to make serious decisions and difficult choices when it comes to the quality of life and progress of our City, and that’s my commitment. I have said many times that “actions speak louder than words” and I strongly believe in that phrase.
Although, I was in a very peculiar situation, the Angeles Fields was not a difficult choice for me. When my neighbors came to me in tears and told me their stories of how they struggled to achieve the American Dream, that was more than enough for me to decide whether I would step back and allow this to happen, or join the hardworking families with their effort.
One great thing that has come out of this experience is the citizens coming together and organizing themselves to make their views known. I hope that this energy that was demonstrated can be continued in a positive way to address the many issues that face the future of our City.
My decisions have been and will continue to be based on facts, and benefit to all. If you are affected by an increase in water rates, SO AM I. If you are affected by the current proposal to develop a stadium, SO AM I, which is why I stand on your side. I oppose a project of this magnitude without taking all the residents into consideration. I have not forgotten that I work for you!
I am truly honored to serve this modest community. I am eager and looking forward to working with the newly elected councilmember’s for the continued improvement and betterment of our City. Honesty, pride, and success are what we need in our City. Let's all work together for a New Beginning!
